Midjourney prompt guide
Image prompts work best when the visual intent is clear. Describe what should appear, where it appears, and how the image should feel. Avoid stacking contradictory visual styles.
Useful prompt ingredients
- Subject: The main person, object, or scene.
- Setting: Environment, weather, time of day.
- Composition: Close-up, wide shot, symmetry, or point of view.
- Lighting: Soft daylight, rim light, practical neon, or overcast light.
- Visual treatment: Editorial, cinematic, documentary, or illustrative.
Example
Parameters such as aspect ratio and stylization depend on the model version. Our tool includes a V6-oriented preset as an example, not a guarantee that every parameter will be valid for newer releases.
Try variations
Change only one variable at a time—such as lighting or framing—to understand how it affects the image. Use the image prompt enhancer to draft variations.
Building better image prompts
Image prompts work best when they describe the subject, composition, camera perspective, lighting and materials separately. Avoid stacking conflicting style words. Compare small controlled variations and keep a record of what changed.
Practical visual brief
Example: A ceramic espresso cup on dark walnut, soft morning side light, 50 mm product photography, subtle steam, clean background, no visible text. Review proportions, legibility and the intended commercial context.
